Here is an email from the Obama Campaign. If you haven’t seen it yet, you might want to give it a look.

A few hours ago John McCain, the same man who just months ago promised to run a “respectful campaign,” said he is “proud” of his latest attack ad.

That’s the one attacking your enthusiasm, comparing me to Paris Hilton and Britney Spears, and making false claims about my energy plan.

Now, we’re facing some serious challenges in this country — our economy is struggling, energy costs are skyrocketing, and families don’t have health care.

Given the seriousness of these issues, you’d think we’d be having a serious debate. But instead, John McCain is running an expensive, negative campaign against us. Each day brings a desperate new set of attacks.

And they’re not just attacking me. They’re attacking you.

They’re mocking the desire of millions of Americans to step up and take ownership of the political process.

They’re trying to convince you that your enthusiasm won’t amount to anything — that the people you persuade, the phone calls you make, the donations you give, the doors you knock on are all an illusion. They believe that in this election the same old smears and negative attacks will prevail again.

They’re wrong.

And right now, we have a few hours left to prove them wrong in a very concrete way.

Can you make a donation right now before the July fundraising deadline at midnight tonight?

Show the strength of our movement for change.

Thank you,

Barack

The Obama Campaign is putting up a website responding to McCain’s decision to go ugly  negative all the time.   The Low Road Express website isn’t up just yet, but you can preview it here.  Give it a look.  It shows what you can do with a web page.

Here is MoveOn Political Action’s latest ad. What do you think? Thumbs up or thumbs down?

The other day I wrote a post on the not easily explainable weakness of the Democratic party in Sni-A-Bar township (mostly Blue Springs, Grain Valley and Oak Grove.)  Here is something to consider when thinking about the Republican ascendancy in Sni-A-Bar.  At least one local political number cruncher tells me that there are as many or more hard core Democrats (defined as people who regularly vote in primary elections) in Sni-A-Bar than Republicans.   Any thoughts as to why Democrats aren’t doing better east of Independence?

John McCain’s campaign staff studied under the contemptible Karl Rove, so it isn’t surprising that John has decided to go negative. Usually when a candidate goes negative he exaggerates some fact the opponent doesn’t want mentioned. Not John McCain.  They don’t feel the need to research facts when they can just make stuff up.

What follows is Barack Obama’s response to McCain’s last few negative ads.

John will be out with another negative ad tomorrow.

CQ has ranked the top ten fund raising congressional challengers. Kay ranks 8. Here is CQ’s take on the race.

Kay Barnes, Democrat, Missouri’s 6th ($962,000). Barnes last year ended an eight-year tenure as mayor of Kansas City and segued to a campaign for Congress in a district that takes in part of that city and its suburbs and also substantial rural territory in northwestern Missouri. The race between Barnes and Republican Rep. Sam Graves ($936,000) promises to be the toughest re-election campaign for the congressman, who has taken more than 60 percent of the vote each of his three re-election campaigns. Their fundraising figures are current to July 16. CQ Politics Race Rating: Leans Republican.

She is only up by $30,000 or so. Time for all of us to send her another check and to volunteer some more time. Missouri needs the change Kay can deliver.

Here is an ad from South Dakota Senator Tim Johnson.   You might recall that in 2006 Tim suffered stroke like symptoms. There was talk he would never return to the Senate. Look at him now!  He is way out front in his race for re-election.

According to the Washington Post:

Oil and gas industry executives and employees donated $1.1 million to McCain last month — three-quarters of which came after his June 16 speech calling for an end to the ban — compared with $116,000 in March, $283,000 in April and $208,000 in May.

Despite the near universal agreement that his plan would not produce a drop of oil for at least a decade, McCain’s only solution to America’s energy crisis is to let big oil drill off the coasts of Florida and California.

Of course, T.Boone Pickens is right. America can’t drill its way out of its energy crisis. The same old, same old isn’t going to work.

Al Gore is also right. We can solve it and in the process solve global warming. But we need to change. We need to improve our electricity grid and power generation infrastructure.  It is time to stop sending big oil and their buds in Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iran and Venezuela 700 billion dollars a year.

We have the technology.  We know what to do.   All we need is the will to change.   It is time to roll up our sleeves and build an American future.  We need to go to work.

Over the last week John McCain has been desperately attacking Barack Obama.  He has virtually called Barack a traitor and has accused him of not caring about the troops.  McCain’s outrageous attacks sound like a grumpy old man complaining about that young whippersnapper who took over his job after he retired.

The jedreport has posted portions of this morning’s Face the Nation interview of Chuck Hagel and Jack Reed.  They answer John McCain’s grumpy old man campaign very well.

I live in Blue Springs,  in the heart of Sni-A-Bar Township.  Sni-A-Bar is relatively large. There are over 47,000 registered voters.  Economically it looks a lot like the rest of Eastern Jackson County.  Blue Springs might have an upper middle class reputation but large parts of the town are decidedly blue collar.  They shouldn’t be natural Republicans.  Grain Valley and Oak Grove are filled with starter homes and young families working hard to make ends meet.  You would think that Democrats would be competitive in Sni-A-Bar,  but for some reason we aren’t.  For decades Republican candidates have routinely beaten Democrats in Sni-A-Bar.   There are a few true blue Democrats in Sni-A-Bar,  but not nearly enough.

Why?  Please, please tell me why.  What can we do to light the Democratic fire in Sni-A-Bar Township?   What are we missing?  What can the folks who live west of the Independence border with Blue Springs do to help spread the message to Sni-A-Bar?

While Barack Obama addresses 200,000 Germans in Berlin the heroic John McCain defends a young woman shopper and her two daughters from an avalanche of applesauce.  Somebody has to get John a supersuit.  Take that Barack Obama.

Barack Obama addresses over 200,000 people in Tiergarten, Berlin.

I need to find the video of McCain addressing a handful of folks at a German American restuarant.  Where is it? Where is it?

John wonders why Obama gets all the press.  Maybe if John could actually fill a room and deliver an inspiring address  reporters  would show up.

VoteVets.org is trying to raise money to buy time for the following ad entitled “Iraqi Freedom.”  They have a point. If the Iraqis ask us to leave, we really ought to leave.  If we don’t can we really say Iraq is truly free. The ad is pretty good.
