Jackson County Missouri Sheriff, Mike Sharp has 26 years of experience as a Kansas City, Missouri, police officer, a background in firefighting, and 18 years as a successful business owner.
Sheriff Sharp will utilize his background in public service and management to improve the quality of life in Jackson County and for the individuals serving at the Sheriff’s office.
Lee’s Summit Native
Sheriff Sharp is a native of Lee’s Summit. The Sheriff graduated from Lee’s Summit High School in 1977 and Central Missouri State University in 1981, with a bachelor’s degree in Fire Science and a minor in Criminal Justice. During his time in college, 1977 to 1981, he also served as a volunteer firefighter for the Lee’s Summit Fire Department.
After College, Sheriff Sharp worked as a full-time police officer from 1981 to 1983, a reserve officer from 1983 to 1999, and a reserve Homicide Detective from 1999 to 2007. Sheriff Sharp retired from the Kansas City Police Department at the age of 47 in 2007.
Business Owner
Sheriff Sharp’s years as a construction supervisor for Kingston Construction Co and as the owner of Wholesale Carpet Warehouse in Lee’s Summit from 1989 to 2007, developed his well honed management skills.
Fourth Generation In Law Enforcement
Sheriff Sharp proudly represents the fourth generation of his family in law enforcement:
- The Sheriff’s great-grandfather, Brit Sharp, served over 40 years as a deputy sheriff.
- The Sheriff’s grandfather, Clinton Sharp, also served as a deputy sheriff.
- The Sheriff’s father, Ben Sharp, was a police officer for six years with the Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Police Department.
Sheriff Sharp’s civic memberships include the Ararat Shrine, Albert Pike Blue Lodge #219 in Independence, the Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Lee’s Summit Main Street Inc., and the Summit Democratic Club.
