State Representative Beth Low
Rep. Beth Low, a Democrat, represents part of Jackson County (District 39) in the Missouri House of Representatives. Rep. Low was elected to the House in 2004 and re-elected in 2006.
In addition to her legislative duties, Rep. Low works at a domestic violence shelter as a non-case load social worker. Prior to that, she worked as Community Organizer and Program Director for the Missouri Progressive Vote Coalition.
Rep. Low attends All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church, K.C. She is a member of the Greater Kansas City Women’s Political Caucus, Committee for County Progress, ACLU, the State Board of Missouri CASA, the UMKC Women’s Council and the ASPCA.
Rep. Low was the 2003 recipient of the Greater Kansas City Women’s Political Caucus Torch Award 2005 recipient of the MS Society’s Committed Statesperson. She also received the On Target award in 2006 from Planned Parenthood, Kansas and Mid Mo.
Rep. Low is a graduate of Jefferson City High School, 1995; and received a B.A. in women’s studies from the University of Missouri– Columbia, 1999. During her studies at the Univ. of Mo., she spent a year studying at the Univ. of Manchester in Manchester, England. She also interrupted her MSW Studies at KU to hold public office.
Born on May 13, 1977 in Fort Ord, California, Rep. Low currently lives in Brookside with husband, Brett Shirk, and their dogs, Mr. Bill and Lady Bug.
