State Representative Michael Brown
Rep. Michael R. Brown, a Democrat, represents part of Jackson County (District 50) in the Missouri House of Representatives. Elected to the House in 2004, Rep. Brown is the owner and publisher of Ghettostone Publishing, an independent comic book company in Kansas City.
In addition to his legislative duties, Rep. Brown is a member of the UMKC Alumni Club and the Freedom Incorporated Political Club. Rep. Brown is also a member of the Missouri Real Estate Commission, the Jackson County Housing Resources Commission and the Task Force for Civil Rights of the Disabled. Rep. Brown attends the Cleveland Avenue Baptist Church in Kansas City.
Throughout his career, Rep. Brown has been recognized as One of Kansas City’s Top 50 Connectors (1995) and mentioned in the Who’s Who International for Professional Management in 1997. Rep. Brown also received the Lila Wallace Reader’s Digest Art Grant for the Arts Program at the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum.
A 1979 graduate of Winnetonka High School in Kansas City, Missouri, Rep. Brown received an Associate of Arts degree from Penn Valley Community College in1990. He also received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 1992 and attended the Ewing Kauffman Foundation Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership in 1991.
Born on September 28, 1961, in Kansas City, Missouri, Rep. Brown lives in Kansas City with his wife Gilma. They have three children: Maya, Cheyenne and Dakotah.
