State Treasurer Clint Zweifel
Clint Zweifel was elected Missouri’s 45th state treasurer on November 4, 2008, with 50.5 percent of the vote and a youngest treasurer in more than a century. He was inaugurated January 12, 2009.
As Missouri State Treasurer, Clint is the state’s chief financial officer. His office manages Missouri’s $20 billion in annual state revenues, directs the state’s banking services and manages Missouri’s $3.5 billion investment portfolio. The office is responsible for safeguarding $450 million in unclaimed assets turned over to the state by banks, businesses, insurance companies and government agencies, and tries to find the rightful owners. Clint also serves on the management boards of several public entities.
Prior to his election to state treasurer, Clint represented the 78th District in the Missouri House of Representatives. Clint first won election to the House of Representatives in 2002 by a 67-vote margin and earned the distinction of being the only Democrat in the state to defeat a Republican incumbent.
While in the House, Clint led Democratic policy strategy and developed real solutions to help Missouri families, developing proposals on early childhood education, helping seniors cope with property taxes and guarding citizen privacy. He was the ranking member on the Ways and Means Committee and the Special Committee on Tax Reform.
He chaired the Missouri House Democratic Campaign Committee in 2006, leading all Missouri House candidate recruitment and fundraising efforts. The effort resulted in the largest Democratic net gain in the House since 1978.
Clint was the first member of his family to graduate from college, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
Clint’s wife, Janice, works with children with special needs in the public schools. They are parents to two wonderful girls.
